UIHC LGBTQ Extends A Welcome to Other Providers
The University of Iowa LGBTQ Clinic has trained all members of the health care team including providers, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and ancillary staff in culturally competent care principles. We strive to create an environment where all patients feel welcomed and affirmed regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We have found the following resources to be quite helpful with regard to increasing your own knowledge or training your staff.
Provider Cultural Competence Resources
National LGBT Health Initiatives & Organizations
Selected LGBT Health Publications
Human Rights Campaign
LGBTQ Health Conferences
Continuing Education Lectures
Lectures are made available via webcast from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Healthcare providers can review the material and claim continuing medical education credits or continuing education units from the American Medical Association.
The Safe Zone Project is a University of Iowa campus-wide program that offers a visible message of inclusion, affirmation, and support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people in the university community.
Participants attend up to two educational workshops to learn about the LGBTQ experience and campus/community resources. After completing the second workshop, participants may choose to become a recognized Safe Zone ally and receive a Safe Zone symbol to display in their work space.
